Two men have been arrested as part of a burglary investigation in the Winchester, Basingstoke and Alton areas.

Officers received reports of six recent burglaries, which are believed to be linked:

  • A burglary at an address on Mount Pleasant, Kings Worthy, between 8.45am and 3.15pm on January 21. A search was conducted of the property and jewellery was stolen.
  • A burglary at an address on Goring Field, Winchester, between 3pm and 7.30pm on January 21. Again, the property was searched and jewellery was stolen.
  • A burglary at an address on Cundell Way, Kings Worthy, at around 7pm on January 21. Jewellery was stolen.
  • A burglary at an address on Harp Avenue, Alton, between 5.30pm and 7pm on January 23. Gold and jewellery was stolen.
  • A burglary at an address on Puttenham Road, Basingstoke, between 11am on January 25 and 10am on January 26. Jewellery was stolen.
  • A burglary at a different address on Puttenham Road, Basingstoke, between 00.01am on January 25 and 00.01am on January 27. Nothing was stolen.

Since the incidents were reported to Hampshire Police, officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries and two men were arrested in Oxford on Monday, January 27.

A 36-year-old man from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, and a 28-year-old man from Craigavon, Northern Ireland, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a burglary dwelling with intent to steal.

The pair have been bailed with conditions, pending further enquiries.
